PSN Update Finally Brings Mass Effect To The PS3

This is a post from Ps3 Maven who bring you the best play station 3, Games, Mods and News.

The wait has been long and hard, but finally, enduring fans can now play one of the best trilogies of this generation from start to finish. Ladies and gentlemen, we’re speaking of Mass Effect!

Just like every tuesday, PSN goes through a scheduled update and new games, offers, and promotions are made available. Amongst the goodies from this week (as reported by the Official PlayStation Blog), there’s a very special feature: the long lost first game of the Mass Effect trilogy, simply called Mass Effect. Fans can now finally see the adventure all the way through, by either getting the game on PSN for $14.99, or the retail version of the Mass Effect trilogy which features all three games of the saga, and some extra goodies on disc for $59.99 dollars.

Mass Effect was for the longest time a game missing from the PS3 catalog, that Xbox 360 and PC gamers were able to enjoy from the get go. While later iterations, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 were released for the PS3 too, it was a while before the Bioware team got around getting the game to work on PS3. Yet, now those times can be put behind us, and the saga of Shepherd and his/her team can be enjoyed from its humble beginnings to its epic yet controversial ending in Mass Effect 3.

In other news, this week also sees the arrival of a few other titles, such as Far Cry 3 ($59.99), Guardians of Middle Earth ($14.99), Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus ($14.99), Page Chronica ($10.99), Rockstar Games Collection: Edition 1 ($59.99), Rotastic ($9.99), Shaun White Snowboarding ($19.99) and Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition ($29.99). My wallet, Sony, what are you doing to it?!

Both Japanese companies will be having live events at TGS 2011. Hit the link to find out the times and schedules.

Kojima Productions, the Metal Gear Solid arm of Japanese publisher Konami, for a second time out in a row, will be lighting up their own stage show for the world to see at this years Tokyo Game Show. So if tickets to the Land of the Rising Sun seem totally out of the possibility, turn to the Internet and KojiPro on September 15th.

Specifically, on Konami’s official Ustream portal, where most likely you’ll catch all things new about Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, among other surprises that have been teased by the maestro of Solid Snake himself, Hideo Kojima. Almost all, except for Metal Gear Solid: Rising which reportedly won’t be at TGS 2011 – no worries though, buzz is they’ll be apparently planning “something” big later this winter.

Just in case you won’t be able to tune in on time to catch the Kojima Productions stage show, it will be repeated again & again throughout the rest of Tokyo Game Show on Ustream. Now, go ahead and take a look at the full Konami schedule — mind you, what’s listed here is just a slight taste of their event.

Senritsu no Stratus Special Stage from 10:45 to 11:30 on 9/17

NeverDead Stage from 12:00 to 12:30 on 9/17

Frontier Gate Special Stage from 14:45 to 15:15 on 9/17

Pop’n Music Portable 2 Special Stage from 16:00 to 16:45 on 9/17

Legend of Heroes Launch Commemoration Falcom jdk Band Special Live from 11:00 to 11:30 on 9/18

Over at Sony HQ, the Japanese branch of company is planning a similar live event of their own, one day before TGS starts. Back in 2010, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan held a pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, but that was restricted to press only. Not so this year, as it will be live broadcasted around the world through their own special website on September 14th.

Unfortunately, much like Metal Gear Solid: Rising, we won’t be seeing Team Ico’s upcoming The Last Guardian at this years TGS. (Oh boy, this one stings…) Originally the game was given a late 2011 release date internationally at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show, but as you can see, it’s been pushed back many times since then… and well… It will come out sooner or later! Believe!

The brain trust behind two popular PlayStation exclusive series, Sucker Punch Productions, is now part of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Joining the Sony Computer Entertainment family is Sucker Punch Productions, delightful makers of Sly Cooper and the current inFamous series, as the electronics giant bought the Bellevue, Washington based game studio for an undisclosed amount on Tuesday. What does this mean for both companies?

For Sony and their PlayStation brand, it’s adding one fine dandy of a developer this console generation to their already full cupboard of talented first-party studios. You might remember last year SCE scooped up U.K. based developer, and Little Big Planet creator, Media Molecule — expanding their gaming portfolio to potentially pristine heights.

Meanwhile for the happy gals and pals down at Sucker Punch Productions — it’s all about the financial security, baby! Sure you might lose a little bit of freedom, but if it means staying alive in a current economic climate, which we’ve seen time & time again snuff out even the brightest of blubs, then it’s for the best. Not that Sucker Punch will have anything to fear with their new Sony overlords, oh heck no.

If there’s one good thing to say about how SCE manages their studios worldwide, is that they leave them well enough on their own — in trusting them to make awesome games without having to get up all in their business and what not. Some might say though, that at times this bites Sony back where the sun don’t shine *cough* Grand Turismo 5 *cough,* but hey, you’ve got to respect it when a financial backer just lets the creative talent, be… you know, creative.

I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t have some of the more curve-ball kind of offerings, games like Journey from Thatgamecompany, on the PlayStation Network if not for this key principle. Something I’m really glad exists on the PlayStation ecosystem and I hope you do too.

E3 2011 – Sony Press Conference Summary

This is a post from Ps3 Maven who bring you the best play station 3, Games, Mods and News.

Here’s your quick rundown at what happened at Sony’s 2011 E3 press conference.

“An elephant in the room.” Those were first round of words Jack Trenton, President & CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, used in front of large crowd at Sony’s Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference to describe the recent hardships the company faced during the hacker attack on the PlayStation Network.

And incredibly shortly after, in a classy scene you don’t see everyday, Mr. Trenton apologized on behalf of Sony and the PlayStation brand for the troubles their lack of security had brought upon its customers. It was a moment of rare humility from a giant corporation — again not always seen by the public — especially a corporation as extremely proud as Sony.

Was it enough to restore customer faith in Sony’s online infrastructure? Probably not, but it set the stage for what was about to come during their E3 presser – an onslaught of so many awesome things that could leave one wondering “PlayStation Network what?” And if that was Sony’s aim, then I believe they did a pretty good job at doing just that.

Immediately after, Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells & Christophe Balestra took to the center stage and treated the audience to a fantastic demo of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. It was an incredible summer action blockbuster movie like experience that even left Mr. Treton himself to say off the cuff “We’re going to sell a few copies of that bad boy.”

Speaking of bad boys, Sony had numerous gaming bundles to announce at the show, including a God of War bundle that remastered the PlayStation Portable God of War games for the PlayStation 3 that would be coming later in the year, along with much anticipated ICO/Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection.

Later on in the show, Sony turned its focus to the PlayStation Move, and by turned I mean a Thanksgiving-sized serving of Move-enabled games. There was even a Move demo of NBA 2K12 that had the help of superstar basketball player Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. Let’s just say his play is much better on the real court than it was on the virtual one.

At this point though, you could slowly hear the growing whispers of “boring” from the crowd, yet those were soon quieted when a teaser trailer for the latest in the Sly Cooper series hit the big screen, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Can you say “day one.”

Then came the big moment of truth came as Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Corp appeared on stage — the unveiling of the Next Generation Portable. As rumors days before confirmed, it indeed was called the PlayStation Vita. The name meaning “life” — something the reports also got right too.

Funnily enough, when Sony announced that AT&T would be the exclusive 3G provider for the Vita, an awkward string of laughs could be heard (yeah, not a good sign.) Thankfully, that would quickly vanish with the stunning showstopping reveal for the Vita’s price.

Cheers and applause could be heard in the crowd and no doubt across the Internet, as Sony’s E3 presser closed with a fantastic bit of news.

Stayed tuned here on PSMaven as we go super in-depth with all the announcements Sony made during its keynote — including of course the PlayStation Vita — as coverage of the Electronic Entertainment Expo goes on.
