Portable Uncharted & More Games In Development For Sony’s NGP

At the recent reveal for Sony’s next portable machine, Nathan Drake and a group of other interesting first-party games lined-up to show off the true power of the successor to the PSP.

Bang-a-gong, it is on! A week after Nintendo announced an American launch price and date for the Nintendo 3DS, Sony seemed to wave their own arms in a collective – “Hey! We’re here too” – with the unveiling of their next on-the-go gaming machine, the temporarily codenamed “NGP” (Next Generation Portable.)

We’ve already learned most of the in-and-outs to the “NGP,” from its top and rear touch capabilities, dual-analog sticks, and a graphics engine that can create almost near PlayStation 3 level visuals – a feat that was exampled in the few first-party games that were shown along side the “NGP” at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting.

The first of these, and no doubt the most impressive, was a portable Uncharted game that is – yes, yes – based off the very same series made famous by developer Naughty Dog. This mobile version though is being made by SCE Bend Studio (Logan’s Shadow, Resistance: Retribution) with Naughty Dog overseeing, and from initial impressions look fantastic, if not uncannily similar to its HD console big brother.

It also plays exactly the same way too, with some of the new features of the “NGP” blended in for good measure: with the touch screen you can jump over obstacles, swipe the device’s back to climb a rope, gently rock the unit back and forth to swing across with a vine, and a “camera mode” that lets look around your environment and take pictures.

One other first-party game I should note is Little Deviants, which shows off the functionality of the rear touch-pad. The game works by touching the back of the “NGP,” and by doing so, players create a small hill in the game world with their finger that can, by the force of physics, push a ball around a tiny miniature golf-like course.

Sony also managed to show a small clip of other first party “NGP” games that are currently in-development. In the video below you’ll find short glimpses of Hot Shots Golf, LittleBigPlanet, WipEout, Killzone, and Resistance, along with some new IPs such as Gravity Daze, Reality Fighters, Smart As, and Broken.

Keep it hear for all news PlayStation 3, including Lara Croft heading to the PlayStation 3, in an awesome three game HD collection coming in March, and pinball fun featuring Spider-Man and his super-powered friends.

Fireteam Bravo series is known for its amazing gameplay and the opportunity it gives gamers to do things on their own. It allows players to take part in US military situations which otherwise they would never get to do in real life.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALS Fireteam Bravo 3 is the latest among the series and it is a cool third person tactical shooter. It can be played on the PSP and is set in the fictional former Soviet republic.

While it is not clear if the cold war tactics would be involved in the game, you could expect ruthless Soviet soldiers fighting against your navy men. In fact, the game deals with you and your 4-man team of US Navy Seals going to a former Soviet republic in search of an Ex-KGB agent called Alexander Gozorov. He has ties with the Mafia and is particularly dangerous.

With an astonishingly interesting gameplay, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 is expected to be released for the PSP on 16th February, 2010.

While there have been many games in modern cities like Paris, London and New York, rarely have we seen a game that is set in China and its cities. The Army of Two: The 40th day is an exception and is set in a post apocalyptic Shanghai which is on the brink of ruin.

Many mysterious catastrophes which have been carefully orchestrated have led Shanghai gasping for breath, and thus the Army of Two must uncover the secrets behind these incidents and finally understand the enigma of the 40th Day. On the way, they encounter many hurdles and engage in bitter violence and you get to see a torn down Shanghai which is quite rare. You can put your two man tactics to best use and the result is a great gameplay which you would soon be addicted to.

This fighting game has been developed by EA Montreal and would be out on the 12of January. It costs $39.99 and is one of the coolest games for the PSP I have come across. Thanks to its language, violence and bloodshed, it has been rated mature and I am sure it only adds to the attraction as most people find “mature” rated games cooler. You could check out other violent games like the Resident Evil 5.

Using Carl Jung’s theories of Shadows and personas, the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona is a part of the larger Megami Tensei series of video games released by Atlas. The role-playing game concerns a male high school student who becomes a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES). They investigate the Dark Hour during which Shadows that feed on human mind become active in the eerie tower of Tartarus.

The player can gradually elevate his status by making more friends and also by strengthening one’s own “Personas” which are hidden selves that come alive during fights with the “Shadows”. The game would be available on the 22nd of September, 2009 and costs $36.99. It could be pre-ordered on Amazon and if you pre-order it now, you will get the full 2-disc soundtrack. The game has been enhanced for PSP and comes with content which has not been seen in North America till now.

With great music and graphics, the game is a sure winner among releases of this month. It has also been fully translated into English. Sony had recently announced Marvel Comics on PSP thus proving that there is always something new available on the PSP. Before you buy any of the games, consider Updating to PSP V 6.00 which was out a few days ago.

The latest game to hit PSP is the Unbound Saga. The game is one of the best brawlers ever and is inspired by Vogster’s comic books. The game will be directly available on Playstation Store for digital download this July 16th. The game has a comic book feel to it and is one of the fist third party PSP titles to launch games digitally for direct download on the PSN.

Now games will perhaps be directly sold to players instead of going through middle men and retailers, which causes not only delays but also extra expenditures for both the developers and players. You can go ahead and play as Rick Ajax and Lori Machete. The story line dwells on their journey to meet “The Maker”. Rick’s suspicion that he is trapped in a comic book is similar to the 1980′s music video of A-ha, (Take on me and The Sun Always Shines on TV).

The Maker will make things difficult for Rick Ajax who tries to get out of the comic book realm fighting his way out. This arcade style brawler is sure to be a great success and has even gone gold already. It would be released in Europe on 23rd of July. The other brawler that we had written about recently was the Fight Night Round 4. The game comes packed with unconventional fighting styles.

New PSP Sour Candies Make for Cheap Gaming

How would you like it if you could munch on your PSP when you are hungry? Well, the idea may seem zany but there are these officially licensed PSP candies which are packed in a metal tin which resembles the PlayStation Portable. Don’t even think about playing with these portable consoles unless you like to play with what you put in your mouth.

These candies are made from sugar, glucose, gum arabic, and other such emulsifiers to make your candies tasty and preservable; sour and tangy. You could choose between blue raspberry and the sour cherry which resemble the red and blue screens of Sony PlayStation Portable. However, these candies are quite expensive and for a dozen of these candies, you may have to shell out almost $32.

If you are totally into PSP and can’t have enough it, “fill your stomach with it”, seems to be the mantra. However, it beats me that these candies are expected to be sour. Shouldn’t they be sweet? Well, it doesn’t matter as long as they will not just restrict themselves to licensing PlayStation Portable candies and also do think about the New PSP 2 and make the launch of it a reality as soon as possible.
