Let the PlayStation Store give you some cool savings, with this year’s PSN Summer Sale — starting Tuesday July 12 through July 18.

It’s July. Summer is at it’s seasonal midpoint and for video games, it also means that the release of new titles is as dried up as a snow cone left out in sun. Which makes it a perfect time to catch up on that dreaded pile of shame or check out some new games that you’ve yet to get around to.

If the latter seems a bit daunting because of the lack of sufficient funds — fear not! Starting Tuesday July 12 until July 19 (the final day is actually July 18, so don’t doddle m’kay?) the PlayStation Store is having a hot sale on some fantastic games that will be ice cool on your wallets. It’s all apart of Sony’s annual PlayStation Network Summer Sale, where 11 PS3 games are being melted with a 30% discount (50% for PlayStation Plus subscribers.)

And truly, the games on this list are so worthy of a checking out, especially with the crazy discounts they’ve been given. Here’s the full list mi amigos!

Back to the Future: The Game – Full Series (Sale price $13.99; Plus price $9.79; Regular price $19.99)

Chime Super Deluxe (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Dead Space Extraction (Sale price $10.49; Plus price $7.34; Regular price $14.99)

Hard Corps: Uprising (Sale price $10.49; Plus price $7.34; Regular price $14.99)

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

PixelJunk Shooter 2 (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Risk: Factions (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Shank (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Scott Pilgrim (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Swarm (Sale price $6.99; Plus price $4.89; Regular price $9.99)

Tales from Space: About a Blob (Sale price $10.49; Plus price $7.34; Regular price $14.99)

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Personally though, my eye is firmly fixed on Pac-Man Champion Edition DX for $7 bucks. That is just plain highway robbery for a game so great! And of course, getting all 5 episodes of Telltale’s Back to the Future: The Game for under $15 is an offer that would make anyone shout-out Great Scott! Oh and remember: The PSN Summer Sale ends the day after July 18th, meaning on July 19th all discounted prices will be removed.

Sony Needs to Tighten PSN Security

This is a post from Ps3 Maven who bring you the best play station 3, Games, Mods and News.

Sony needs to restore consumer confidence by doing more to keep its Play Station Network secure.

The April hacking of the PSN resulted in a month long nightmare for gamers and Sony Internet security experts alike. It revealed for the first time not only how dependent we as gamers are on the, but also how lax major companies can be towards their user’s security and privacy.

Gamers had to cope with the very real possibility that the network was not only down, but possibly indefinitely. Sony was notoriously silent and vague during the past month as to when and how the network would be back online. For the 100 million gamers nicely addicted to Call of Duty and other online competitive play, this was akin to a slap in the face.

For developers, the outage was also a disaster. More than a few games were planned to have been released over the month the network was down, many of them exclusively on the PSN. Small game developers struggle as is to stay afloat amidst the competition of giant companies. It’s at times like this when Microsoft’s Xbox Live network begins to look like a more stable avenue.

Where was Sony during all this? Apologizing and making promises that it would never happened again. Unfortunately, “never again” happened to mean less than a week, as fresh breaches at Sony has been reported in Canada, Greece, Thailand and Indonesia. While none of these breaches opened the doors to exposing private information on the level that the PSN breach did, they are nevertheless painful reminders that Sony is still living a fairy tale where big companies are left alone and consumers are always loyal.

The question to be asked is: are these fresh attacks simply the result of other hackers jumping on the bandwagon to take down Goliath, or do they signal a deeper sense of consumer frustration aimed against Sony?

It is no secret that Sony has always taken a hard line stance towards defending its intellectual property and copyrights. The Betamax and the UMD are tragic examples of a company guarding one of its products to the point of its ruin.

Today, Sony maintains the same hard line approach towards its property, yet displays a careless disregard for the protection of its users and clients. If Sony would take the time to divert a mere fraction of its efforts to guard its property into guarding its clients privacy then maybe the future for the company will once again be secure for everyone.

PlayStation Blog Answers Questions About PSN Restoration

This is a post from Ps3 Maven who bring you the best play station 3, Games, Mods and News.

Praise the gaming gods — the PlayStation Network is back! But before we get ahead of ourselves, SCEA answers what steps the service will take in the coming weeks.

Like with any accident or mishap big or small — it’s not just getting back on your two feet that matters most, but also what actions you take next that define your progress. After all the bad (and boy did it get really bad) that befell on the PlayStation brand when the PlayStation Network sunk under the weight of a brutal hacker attacker, it seems that everything is slowly returning to normal.

Of course returning to normal is only the first part — as I said — it’s what you do next that is super important to any restoration process. Recently, Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) has just given its customers an early glimpse as to what that ‘restoration process’ might involve by posting a simple Q & A on the official PlayStation Blog.

The question and answers article mentions many important things — including what parts of the PlayStation Network are up and when some digital content that was expected to launch before the hacker attack will become available.

In response to what parts of the PlayStation Network are full steam, this is what the PlayStation Blog had to say:

“Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.”

Obviously the one thing that is clearly missing in that list is the PlayStation Store. No real definite answer as to when the PS Store would reopen for business on that front, but Sony did address how they would be handling content going forward — publishing things that were postponed multiple times per week as soon as the PlayStation Store is green lit for commerce. Meanwhile for PlayStation Plus subscribers, content delivery such as games or items will continue where it left off last.

Lastly, if you have questions or problems regarding your account password, a good idea might be to check out the link below and follow the PlayStation Blogs directions on that. Really the Q & A covers quite a lot, so you might just want to head over there for good measure. Oh and please stay tuned here for any further developments as the PlayStation Network finally (thank my lucky stars) gets it legs.

Get ready for an underwater survival adventure, with the May release of Hydrophobia Prophecy for the PlayStation Network.

The deep blue sea; a substance that can be so mysterious and unpredictable, it’s been the key ingredient to great cinematic classics such as Jaws and more recently the SyFy Channel original film Sharktopus (I’m totally serious, maybe.) It’s also the main component in soon to be released Hydrophobia Prophecy; an upgraded port of the original Dark Energy Digital developed Xbox Live Arcade game Hydrophobia.

Released almost a year ago, Hydrophobia was an action-adventure game that combined skillful navigation of dangerous water-flooded environments and strategic elimination of enemies, as you take the role of the game’s heroine, Kate Wilson, who desperately tries to escape a city-sized luxury ocean vessel that’s just been attack by a group of terrorists.

During many parts of the game, Kate must find her way through lots of destruction – like fallen debris, caved in doors, walls, and windows that all change on the drop of a dime because of the amount of flooding water slowly sinking into the submerged city. As one of the developers for Hydrophobia put it, the game pits “player versus environment,” meaning that you’ll have to think sharp about how to react with the ever changing environment, and realistic water dynamics.

Admittedly the game looks impressive, almost of a major blockbuster title quality, but with the reasonable price of a digital download. Plus with the upcoming release of Hydrophobia Prophecy, the developers promise noticeable improvements in the graphical department, along with other tune ups to the original that were changed after fan feedback for the game was mixed.

Yes with the less-than-positive response with Hydrophobia, Dark Energy Digital didn’t just take the lumps that were given; they got back up on their feet and decided to make the necessary changes to make their creation even better. Added to Hydrophobia Prophecy, the game will improve on the core game play, have exclusive new levels including reworked old ones, a revised back story, a dramatic new ending, new voice actors, and much more.
