Sony’s White PS3 Announced for North America, Europe

Sony announced that the White 320GB PS3 model will soon be available for audiences in North American and Europe, and no longer exclusive to Japan.

Tying in with last month’s price cuts, Sony is throwing us another bone with this sleek looking console. It is estimated that it will be priced the same as other 320GB slim models.

The console ships with two controllers and unlike past white PS3 models that appeared in Japan, which have lacked memory card slots and had smaller storage space, this one should have all the bells and whistles.

Unfortunately, the models will not be released with wide distribution. GameStop is currently the only retailer that will be carrying these models, having knocked a bit of an exclusive deal with Sony.

However, if you’re getting kind of tired of having the same PS3 as all your friends then maybe investing in a nice white one, which more than one source compared stylistically to the Dreamcast of old, is just what you need to break out of your Playstation blues and become the envy of your peers.

This model has been available in Japan since 2010 and should be available to us Westerners this November. It is quite possible that the release will coincide with the debut of Sony’s Playstation TV.

Incoming for Gamescom 2011 — the PlayStation 3 is getting a price cut along with a new inFamous 2 bundle.

On Tuesday, during their Gamescom 2011 keynote in Cologne, Germany, Sony officially announced that the PlayStation 3 would be getting the much rumored price cut that many speculated it would and undoubtedly deserves. Down fifty big ones, the new price tag for Sony’s console extraordinaire is $249.99.

And you won’t have to wait long to rake in the PlayStation 3′s new retail price — in fact you won’t have to wait at all! That’s because the $250 price savings goes into affect worldwide starting right now! Yes. Like right now, now.

For the higher-end 320 GB model, there’s even cost readjustment news about that too. The more beefy hard-drive space version of the PlayStation 3 will retail for $300 — that’s a hundred dollars off the original price and for extra gigs to store all your games, music, and videos, it’s a steal if I do say so myself (and I just did.)

Well that does it for news from Gamescom, nothing else to report here — oh wait, no, there’s this last sweet bit of info.

Check out this beauty – a limited edition inFamous 2 bundle just recently announced by Sony Computer Entertainment of America boss Jack Tretton. Available at certain retailers across North America, this bundle will be sold for $299 and will include a 320 GB PlayStation 3, a copy of said game, and a 30-day trial subscription to PlayStation Plus.

Better yet, the Cole McGrath featured hardware package is said to be available now! Whoa… be still my faint heart… too much awesome in one day.

It seems the world’s largest retailer is shipping out the new CECH-3000 PlayStation 3 models, possibly in preparation to a price cut.

Remember that new PlayStation 3 slim model we told you about in June? The one that’s supposed to cut power consumption, weight, and be all eco-friendly — thus gaining the proud approval of Captain Planet and what have you.

According to a few NeoGaf regulars, it seems that Amazon.com has (at least in the United States) started to ship the new “CECH-3000″ model to customers who purchase a PlayStation 3. To be exact, these would be the 3001-A version with 160 GB of hard-drive space and not the 320 GB one we reported back a couple of months ago.

Moving on to specifics, when Sony mentioned the removal of certain LED lights on the 3000 models, they weren’t kidding. Both the LED backlighting from the eject/power buttons and the green LED for network activity are gone, gone, gone – along with the glossy finish around the edges of the machine that has been replaced with a matte finish.

Honestly though, it’s not that big of change, sure the smaller fan inside the machine might be a real concern, but when compared side by side with that of a 2000 model (thanks for the pictures NeoGaf member TheBanditKing,) the two look very similar. If anything the changes made to the 3000 models is again just a cost cutting measure for what seems likely to be an incoming price cut.

And if you’re a good boy and girl (not really,) that might come later this month as speculation from insiders have it that Sony will announce a PlayStation 3 price drop during Gamescom (think E3 but in Germany.) The next industry event is set to take place August 17th through August 21st, and it’s probably here that Sony will take the opportunity to slash the price of their console to $199.99.

Either them or rival Microsoft — whom rumors also have lowering the price on the Xbox 360. Whatever happens though, consumers win in the end (but I really wish it would be Sony, come on guys!)

As one of the measures taken in order to become more eco-friendly, Sony has prepared its new “CECH-3000″ model PlayStation 3, which surfaced earlier this month. According to our source, a Japanese retailer who was briefed about the features of the latest redesign of the console has revealed a couple of details.

The CECH-3000B is a 320 GB system that cuts its power consumption from 230W to 200W, and its weight from 3.0kg to 2.6kg. Although the reports aren’t really clear about this, apparently there are also some external changes, most noticeable, the power and eject buttons, along with the removal of LED lamps.

Pricing will remain the same (booh) as in the current versions. The new model will come out soon, once the current line runs out.

Sony is Offering PS3 Buyers a Free Game for a Limited Time

If you don’t own a PlayStation 3 yet, it may be time to think about purchasing one. Sony is offering a free game with the purchase of a 120GB PS3 system now until August 21, 2010.

Now the good part, these aren’t just throwaway games. Really, they aren’t. These are AAA real-deal first-party PS3 games. The choices include: MAG, the online multiplayer shoooter with support for up to 256 players in one map; Uncharted 2, the platformer/shooter game and my personal game of the year for 2009; White Knight Chronicles, the PlayStation 3 RPG; MotorStorm Pacific Rift, an off-road racer; Heavy Rain, a mystery adventure with some of the most awkward controls ever put into a game; and ModNation Racers, a racer in which players can build custom tracks to share and race on with friends.

The system is available through the Sony Style site, which is the company’s official online retail site. Customers deciding to jump on the PS3 wagon simply buy the system with the bundle they want to purchase.

It’s been pointed out that the system is on back-order right now, but the offer should still be valid. Meaning that you can buy the system, and still receive the free game. It just won’t arrive until they can replenish stock.

Maybe this will make for the boost in sales that Sony needs in order to keep themselves competitive with the Xbox 360, which just saw a redesign less than two months ago and has since taken the lead in sales for the month of July topping both the Wii and the PS3. Though this may only be a temporary spike in sales for Microsoft’s system. Still, their rivals have to cease any opportunity they can to stay ahead of the competition.

Sadly, it doesn’t seem that Sony plans on carrying out this deal in stores. You will have to purchase online if you want to receive the free game. It’s not a bad deal either way.

The system is available for $399 for the 120GB model and each of the games are valued at $59.99.

Sony Playstation is known for its avant-garde ad campaigns which are usually quite shocking in nature. The ads seem to suggest that the PS3 allows the player to experience an altered state of reality where the real and the unreal merge. Moreover, the PS3 ads seem to indicate that the reality which is mundane and boring is made interesting thanks to the virtual fun and adventure that PS3 consoles provide in the form of video game entertainment.

The latest ad campaign by Mexican Ad Agency Diagonal is all about how PS3 consoles provide you with possibilities that you may never have thought of. The graphically rich posters help you to forsake the boring reality and embrace a virtual-reality which may overlap with the existing reality too.

For instance, one of the ad posters urge you to destroy 7,000 enemies along with the pictures of your nagging in-laws. The image shows a sullen mother-in-law being pushed out of the PS3 console.

Another poster tells and reminds you that the judgment day is not far, and that the aliens need to be killed.

Yet another poster asks you to dance with the zombies before killing them, thanks to the versatility of the PS3.

The final poster encourages the player to exercise promiscuous instincts by hitching a partner while hitting on another secretly. You could also check a more minimalist and simplistic ad poster unveiled by a Chilean Ad Agency.

PS3 Slim Officially Unveiled by Sony

For a long time we have been nurturing the idea of the PS3 Slim. In fact, when we wrote about the PS3 Slim Rumor, we had no idea it would actually be coming true. The rumor had killed all of us and we have waited ages for any sort of official confirmation. Like a beacon on the bay, Sony has now officially announced the PS3 Slim and they have also announced the official price.

The PS3 Slim is going to cost $299 which isn’t too bad at all, and I am sure most PlayStation fans would rush to the stores in order to get hold of the new console. The PS3 Slim was announced at Gamescom Expo which was held in Munich, Germany and will be available in stores from September and will have the same features, specifications and functions as the older PS3 but only it will be a lot slimmer.

In fact, the PS3 Slim will be nearly 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter, which would make it one of the sleekest consoles ever. Rival consoles would certainly feel the pinch with PS3 becoming all slim and sexy.

Moreover, it would have a disk space of 120GB and that poses a lot of questions. The old PS3 costs the same amount, has a space of 80GB and is heavy and bulky when compared to its successor. There is no information about the old PS3 being removed from production and if it is going to be sold at the same price in spite of all the shortcomings, would people still buy it?

This actually may mean that if the old PS3 is still going to be marketed or sold, there certainly would be a price reduction. It actually doesn’t matter as the new PS3 Slim is here with better ergonomics, same features and specifications and loads of space for all those amazing games.

Sony must also start thinking about releasing more games in order to fill the extra space, as PlayStation isn’t exactly the best place to find loads of games. Rival consoles have more games available for them always. Nevertheless, it is time to celebrate!

The PS3 has been around long enough for a new PS3 design to be released just like the different Playstation 2 consoles been through.

This spy shots show a hopeful new PS3 console that is slimmer and perhaps will bring the new wave of consoles to the market. It isn’t a PS3 Mod and could simply be a fabrication using simple editing tools. Overall, we are hoping for better images to surface soon, because this rumor is simply killing us.

If, and only if, this truly is the upcoming new PS3, is it what you were hoping for as Playstation fans or are there specific looks and features which would make you appreciate it more.
