New PS3 3.55 Firmware Update Will Fight Jailbreaking

The newest PS3 Firmware Update 3.55 will be arriving soon, and it seems to be mostly directed at fighting the PS3 Jailbreak.

Ever since the Playstation 3 has been Jailbroken, Sony has immediately went to work on fighting the hackers by not allowing the previous dongle sales, adding more security patches as to avoid it, and are probably continuing to think of additional ways to keep the PS3 hack free.

The previous PS3 Jailbreak was done using an external USB dongle which provided the ability to back up games into an external hard drive for later playing. Of course, Sony does not wish that to be possible, for then Playstation gamers could in fact trade games by data alone, without the need of the original disk.

As of now, the only info about the new PS3 Firmware Update 3.55 is that it is supposed to include a security patch, which most likely further fights the PS3 Jailbreaking ability.

New PS3 Firmware Update 2.80 Now Available for Download

Following the previous PS3 Firmware Update 2.76, the new PS3 Firmware Update 2.80 is now available as a free download for the major Playstation 3 fans (Official Download Link Below).

Although there weren’t too many features introduced, new security possibilitiies and revisions were added to the new PS3 2.80 version.

The main feature of the new Firmware Update is the chat possibility, which makes it easier to chat with friends and other gamers while actually playing PS3 games. Moreover, videos can now be backed up and music settings now have added a Dynamic Normalizer for major music intelectuals.

In addition to the chat feature, the PS3 2.80 version firmware also allows better management of friends and the gaming network, enhancing your game experience as well as technical possibilities.

Some bugs and glitches have also been remedied since the last update, so for some, it is worth it to update just to clear up the air. Overall, not many new additions but the few added are pretty straightforward and worth some praise.

PS3 Firmware Update 2.70 Released Soon

Like it has happened many times before, Internet has been abuzz with rumors about the next PS3 firmware update. The PS3 2.60 Firmware Update did not satisfy many with more than a few reporting issues about signing out and Sony did mention they were going to fix a bug in the new 2.70 firmware. Moreover, the rumors speak of many updates to the features already available and this shall certainly get many PS3 fanboys excited.

There are supposedly 3 major areas of changes concerning Friends List, Gamer Card & Trophies and In-Game XMB. The updates to Friends List include features like voice messaging which can be used as an alternative to text messaging. However, voice messages are capped at 30 secs. You could also have the Home avatar photo as your photo ID and you can see your friends’ trophy number and Gamer Level under their names. The Gamer Card aesthetic has been changed; the information can be viewed in detail which is also loaded much faster when compared to earlier.

The new ps3 firmware update allows you to browse Internet while playing, use Voice and chat message, and allows custom theme settings. Moreover, options that you cannot use during game sessions will be grayed out so that you don’t get confused. There are also other tweaks and some minor enhancements. The update looks pretty exciting though there is no information about the cross-game invites. It is rumored to be out in the second quarter of 2009, which is not too far away.
