The last week of October sees the release of a whole lot of sweet DLC for Gran Turismo 5. Come inside to find out all the details and pricing!

With the free Spec II Patch and the $39.99 price cut speeding well off into the distance, the plans for new downloadable content for Gran Turismo 5 is about take off from the starting line itself on Tuesday, October 25th, when the PlayStation Store naturally updates its storefront. Four individual DLC packs specifically will be up for retail, feature new racing tracks, customization options, and cars galore.

You can buy each pack, which I’ve gone ahead and laboriously detailed below, separately if your so chose, or you can buy them at one in complete pack for the awesome low, low price of $11.99. Purchased on their own, all four packs go for around $20, meaning you get about a ten dollar or so discount just for bundling up. Ah, yeah!

Course Pack — 2 Tracks, 5 Layouts ($4.99)

Only two new courses in one pack might sound skimpy, sure, but for how awesomely detailed they both are it’s highway robbery for the price you’re getting them at. That said, this course pack contains the historic eastern-Belgium located Circuit de Spa Francorchamps track (with weather effects to boot), and for go-kart lovers, the sparkly neon playground that is Kart Space layouts I & II (both layouts supporting normal and reverse options).

Racing Car Pack — 15 Cars ($7.99)

This pack contains some eye-catching four-wheeled beauties (15 to be exact); like the Red Bull X2011, the newest version of the race car designed by Adrian Newey, head engineer of Red Bull Racing and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, which throws away regulations for the pursuit of the ultimate racing machine (albeit a fictional one.) Call me a little less ambitious, but I would rather have the Nissan GT-R R35 Touring Car sitting my garage, but hey, different strokes and all that.

Start your engines and get ready for an arcade blast from the past with the release of Daytona USA for the PlayStation Network this late October.

It’s the return of a classic racing game, which whenever gets mentioned, some folks can’t resist breaking out into fits of humming, Doot do doot do doot do doot do doot dooooo! Daytonaaaaaaaaa! That’s right, Sega’s Daytona USA is back and racing into digital storefronts October 25th, and with much warm welcome, this version is promised to be a polished port of the 1993 arcade hit that won over players with it’s absolute thrilling gameplay and killer soundtrack.

Agreeably, that much of Daytona USA has been safely left in tact by Sega, but taking note of the widescreen age that is modern gaming, it’s being wonderfully presented in an “enhanced 16:9 widescreen format.” Beyond just looks though, this port will include several attention-grabbing modes too, such as an Arcade Mode, Survival & Time Trial Modes, Online Mode for up to 8 racers — and for those who just can’t get enough of that boss-like music, an actual Karaoke Mode. Hey! It’s all in the loving spirit of what Daytona USA is truly all about!

Plus it’s only going for $9.99 on the PlayStation Store when it releases. Fantastic, I say!

Can not wait for some Daytona USA. I also can not wait for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations coming out next month or the PlayStation Vita — which, I know, I know, hasn’t been given an exact release date yet. But oh how I’m feeling the hype on that beautiful piece of Sony hardware.

The final Mortal Kombat downloadable character is none other than the nightmares man himself, Freddy Krueger. Check out the latest trailer of him in action.

It’s not as if Mortal Kombat needed to add more brutal violence in its game — but heck, you got to applaud the fellas (and gals) down at NetherRealm Studios for going all out when it comes to upping the ante. Recently horror-cinema legend, Freddy Krueger, was just released on August 9th as the next available downloadable brawler for the game.

The famed Nightmare on Elm Street antagonist is priced at $4.99 on the PlayStation Network, and comes equipped with his twin trusty razor-fingered gloves. Sadly if you’re looking for classic Robert Englund ‘Krueger’ as we all know and love, look else where, because NetherRealm Studios opted for the 2010 reboot version instead. Odd choice… but better than nothing.

If you don’t know yet whether or not yet you want to pull the trigger for the ‘Freddy Krueger’ add-on, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has just put out an interesting short video that might tip you into making a decision or keeping you from falling asleep ever again. Muwahahahahaha!

Way til’ ya get a load of these fantastic looking Batsuit skins that will be available as a pre-order bonus and later on as downloadable content.

Since his 1939 appearance in the 27th issue of Detective Comics, Batman has had an iconic range of different looks, batsuit wise that is. With each unique design a time-stamp of The Dark Knight’s long historic career as the defender of Gotham City and one of DC Comic’s best-established figures the world over.

Coming soon in Batman: Arkham City, you’ll have an opportunity to relive those moments with special skins that allow you suit up Bats in the classic costume of your choosing. Aside from the Batman: Year One skin shown above, already announced are five additional-content outfits, including one that dresses up Batman as his Animated Series counterpart — those eyes… they… they stare into your soul…

Each special Batman skin will be available as a pre-order gift, but only certain costumes will be given at corresponding retailers. Meaning that from which reliable retailer you choose to reserve Batman:Arkham City at, you’ll receive that exact Batsuit as a bonus. We don’t know for sure yet which skin will be available at which retailer — yet it’s mostly likely you’ll see them at a GameStop near you.

And even if you don’t happen to get one around the pre-order period, I’m sure, just as the exclusive Arkham Ayslum challenge maps were eventually made available for purchase – in time — so should these super cool costumes.

Don’t they look awesome? To me, they look quite a bit like the original, super deformed 3D designs from the game!

This Final Fantasy VII Costume Pack is available for 5,99€ for the set of five. Each of the characters can also be bought individually (except for the silhouette character) for 1,99€ each.

Final Fantasy VII has become iconic among the video game culture. Not only is it the first Final Fantasy title we’ve seen on the old PSOne days, but also one of the first Role Playing Games to present characters not attached to the classic archetypes (thief, fighter, healer and such), yet each one performing their role in battle as the player would see fit by customizing their skills with the materia system, as well as having their own complex background with which to take part of a greater story.

Thus all sorts of Final Fantasy VII related fan-made tributes have been made, and Little Big Planet is not the exception. The platform game’s customizable and shareable-over-the-net skins and stages now have a new source of inspiration for players and creators to unleash their potential on. I wanna see a Nibelheim stage! Or maybe Midgar City.

I guess we all know who the silhouette character is, but I’m still looking forward to see more Final Fantasy VII Sackboys and Sackgirls, like Sackgirl Yuffie, Sackboy Reno, Sackboy Zack, or Sackboy Barret, with his cute little machine-gun arm.

Let the PlayStation Store give you some cool savings, with this year’s PSN Summer Sale — starting Tuesday July 12 through July 18.

It’s July. Summer is at it’s seasonal midpoint and for video games, it also means that the release of new titles is as dried up as a snow cone left out in sun. Which makes it a perfect time to catch up on that dreaded pile of shame or check out some new games that you’ve yet to get around to.

If the latter seems a bit daunting because of the lack of sufficient funds — fear not! The developers that gave us Flower, are back this time with their next impactful gaming experience in Journey for the PlayStation Network.

If life is a journey as they say, then the actual game “Journey” in every way adequately represents that defined sense of an experience one person takes as they reach their destination — the people they meet, the sights they see, and the emotions one feels as they proceed further along their trip.

That’s what Thatgamecompany, the darling developers who created the fantastic title that was 2009’s Flower, hope to impart on the player when they pick up a controller and play Journey (coming to the PlayStation Network.) Specifically, as a long-robed stranger – almost Middle Eastern in fashion – wandering a massive desert that appears endless in its scope.

The hooded character has no map or guide to lead them, but only a mountain in the distance which shines ever so brightly at its top. And that’s basically your task in Journey; to travel towards the top of that mountain where exactly what happens when you do is something Thatgamecompany is tight-lipped. Oooo, mysterious!

Along the way, players can also come across pieces of cloth, very much the same dark red color as your character, which can be collected and used to fly for brief periods. There will also be ruins and magical objects that players will come across on their “Journey” – things that likely will help give keen insight to this strange foreign land.

Journey will also have online cooperative play, where players can randomly bump into other worldly travelers. But here’s the Thatgamecompany catch – other strangers that come into your game will not be identified with a username, while voice or text communication will not be possible either. Again, mysterious!

If you’re a fan of the types of thought-provoking games that Thatgamecompany makes, such as Flower and the like, then I implore you my good sir (or madam) to check out Journey (which is still TBA 2011) – ah, in fact here’s a wonderful game demo left over from this years E3 just for you (or for anyone else for that matter.)

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta Starts In Late June

In late June, developer Naughty Dog unleashes the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception multiplayer beta — read on to find out what’s in store for gamers when it does.

Six months is a heck of a long time just to play Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the third chapter in Nathan Drake’s treasure-seeking adventures. Gladly series developer Naughty Dog happens to think so too, because soon enough gamers will be able to take an early crack at the PlayStation 3 exclusive game through the release of the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception multiplayer beta that drops June 28.

This isn’t a measly slice of the game’s multiplayer either – the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta is remarkably jammed pack with content, including 9 – count it – 9 whole individual modes to play. Only six multiplayer modes have been revealed in-depth so far, with the last three, being co-op based, that have yet to be fully disclosed by Naughty Dog – for now though, here’s the current list:

Team Deathmatch
Three Team Deathmatch – Same deathmatch, but with 3 teams of 2 members each
Team Objective
Plunder – A capture the treasure mode
High Stakes – Where players gamble with XP and cash to win matches
Free For All

All online modes from the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta will take place on two multi-level stages, either an giant airfield or a French chateau. Both have real-time elements during matches that give every battle that nice adrenaline kick – the airfield has actual cargo planes taking off and landing, while the chateau level has collapsing buildings that lay waste to the arena.

There are also a lot of perks and abilities for beta users to earn to gain a distinct advantage on the battlefield. One such match-changing ability are the recently detailed power plays, where if a losing team is in last-second desperate need for points, activating this one-minute event – say marking a player with bonus points if killed or exposing the winning team’s location – can turn the tide in a dime.

You’ll also be able to have the option to play as Nathan Drake or his salty-dog mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, but you can also create your own unique combatant through the multiplayer’s own character creation tool and design a unique mercenary to the best of your imagination (…yeesh, I can see juvenile monstrosities already.)

If all this sounds pound-for-pound like an awesome time, you won’t have to wait too long to try out the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta. The online shootouts over the PlayStation Network will start on June 28 for gamers who pick up a brand new copy of inFamous 2 (that comes with a voucher) and PlayStation Plus members.

For everyone else, the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta opens for the public on July 4 (U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!) and ends on ends July 13 — you’ll only have about week (two weeks if you get early access) to have fun, so drink it up big till it lasts, because afterwards it’ll be a grueling wait til the real thing hits retailers November 1, 2011.

It might not have the name Contra, but Hard Corps: Uprising brings old-school difficulty to the high definition gaming generation with style.

After getting a hold of Hard Corps: Uprising, you might easily with the slip of the tongue call it Hard Core: Uprising instead. Konami’s newest side-scrolling run and gun game, for the PlayStation Network, is a modern call-back to the age of video games that kicked the player in the teeth with a brutal difficulty. Not only does Uprising successfully commit to this player-punishing stance, it also has the lineage to back it up too.

Hard Corps: Uprising is part of Konami’s fabled Contra series, which has generally long been known for assaulting players with a barrage of bullets and enemies from every corner of the screen. This title specifically is a prequel to Contra: Hard Corps; the first Contra game for the Sega Genesis that also introduced selectable characters (one of who was a werewolf with a cannon for an arm.)

This time though, instead of Contra: Hard Corps’ traditional 16-bit pixel graphics, Uprising uses an Anime-style visuals for its two gun-towing protagonists, on-screen enemies, and high definition backdrops – all brought to you by the creative minds behind the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series – Yokohama, Japan located Arc System Works (the sole developers of the game.)

Along with the jump to a different style of graphics, Arc System Works is giving players two ways to play Hard Corps: Uprising, with two different game modes that will please both the retro-gamer masochist and the baby-game loving crowd (which I happily represent!) The game modes are called Rising and Arcade; Arcade being your standard Contra vacation-through-hell difficulty experience (available in either offline/online two player co-op.)

Meanwhile, Rising mode centers around the player grinding score points, like in a role-playing game, to then be used at power-up shops to buy special upgrades and customizations for weapons, armor, and character abilities. If anything, this really helps balance out the grueling difficulty curve for Hard Corps: Uprising, and thus happily results in fewer broken controllers (and those things don’t come cheap as is.)

Hard Core…err sorry, I mean – Hard Corps: Uprising is now available on the PlayStation Store for a solid $14.99 – oh and while you are there – you can check out PixelJunk Shooter 2, or better yet, how about generously giving a extra few dollars to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort through the PlayStation Store.

Experience one of Ubisoft’s most critically acclaimed and fan-loved games in high definition through the PlayStation Network.

With the digital release of Beyond Good & Evil HD coming to the PlayStation Network in May, gamers can now experience – in beautiful high definition – one of the best games from 2003, as nominated by the Game Developers Choice Awards, and a heavy fan favorite amongst those who have experienced this Ubisoft thrid-person action-adventure title.

Easily, one of the reasons why Beyond Good & Evil receives all these kind accolades, is it’s clever incorporating of many different themes – both fantasy and science fiction. The game is set in the distant future in a galaxy light-years away on a mining planet called Hillys. There, the inhabitants are both human and walking-talking animals, whose home world is a cool blend of alien-looking technology and rustic European-styled building architecture.

Beyond Good & Evil also gets points for also featuring a female lead that surprisingly goes against the “blond bombshell” stereotypes that usually females in games are often tagged with just to sell an extra copy of a game. Gamers will play the role of Jade, a former orphan caretaker now turned photo journalist who must uncover the truth behind the sleazy-seeming government and the strange case of disappearances of the inhabitants of the planet.

Paired with a camera, her combat staff and throwing discs, Jade stealthily moves through enemy-controlled strongholds and solves puzzles that block her path to capture photographic evidence for the government’s shady deeds. At times, Jade is also helped by other members of her party (a pig named Pey’j or a human muscleman named Double H) to take down large-sized baddies or overcome platforming obstacles.

Awesomely, Beyond Good & Evill manages to weave everything – the game play, the world, and the characters – into a gripping story of mystery, espionage, and revolution that is a must play for any fan of the action-adventure genre. There isn’t a exact price for this game yet, but be sure that it will probably be in the $10 range when it drops on the PlayStation Store. While there, you can pick up a game (say PixelJunk Shooter 2) or donate to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort.
